Description of the tour:
The first stop will be on the Esquilino Hill where our guide will show you the treasures of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, then continuing by coach to stop at the Holy Staircase, the Lateran Palace and the Basilica of St. John in the Lateran (the first Cathedral of Rome-visit). Then proceeding along the Ancient Appian Way you will pass by the Chapel 'Domine Quo Vadis' before arriving at the Catacombs, the ancient underground cemeteries and first hiding places for the Christians. Travelling down Via Cavour you will arrive at Imperial Forum and the Colosseum, then passing through Piazza Venezia with its impressive monument erected for King Victor Emmanuel II and the tomb dedicated to the Unknown Soldier, We will continue towards the river Tiber passing the Circus Maximus and the Temple of Vesta before arriving at the Tiberina Island and passing alongside the Jewish Quarter with its big bronze-roofed Synagogue. We then proceed towards the Basilica of St. Peter's, the Castle of Sant'Angelo and the ancient Ara Pacis to see these impressive monuments illuminated in all their glory. Arriving at Piazzale Flaminio you will see the famous Piazza del Popolo, the ancient northern entrance into Rome. Description of the tour:
Following the ancient Via Tiburtina, 30 Kms east of Rome, this tour allows you to visit and compare two splendid villas from two different ages. At the foot of the Tiburtini hills which dominates the vast quarries of travertine marble and are host to the springs bronging the sulphurous waters to the spa town of Bagni di Tivoli, you will first stop to visit the Villa Adriana. The ruins can only hint at the grandeur and beauty of this Villa which the Emperor Hadrian had built to remind of the monuments and sites he had admired during his travels in the East. Description of the tour:
Leaving Rome in a southern direction you take the Autostrada del Sole (Highway of the Sun) which goes through the 'Ciociara' area from where you can view the town of Cassino with the Abbey of Montecassino, known for its famous battle and complete destruction during the second World War. Upon arrival in Naples we will proceed towards the hill of Posillipo from where we can enjoy one of the most spectacular views of the Gulf of Naples and of the volcano Vesuvio. Descending towards the port of Mergellina and following the coastal road, we will arrive in the ancient fishing quarter of Santa Lucia and see the impressive Castel dell'Ovo. The city tour continues crossing the historical centre to see Piazza del Plebiscito, the Royal Palace, the Church of San Francesco di Paola, the San Carlo Opera House, the Gallery of Umberto I and the imposing Maschio Angioino. Upon leaving the city, we cross the fertile valley of Mount Vesuvius, passing the villages of Ercolano, Torre del Greco and Torre Annunziata before finally arriving at Pompeii where we will first have a stop for lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch we will continue with a local guide on foot for your archaeological tour of the excavations of Pompeii. Visit this famous Roman city which was completely destroyed by a volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 a.D: through the ruins and rests of this ancient city, we can picture the everyday life of the Imperial Age and imagine the panic felt by the people in those last few minutes before the city was so disastrously buried. After the visit return to Rome (approximately 3 hours travelling time) with the possibility of stopping at a coral and cameo factory along the way. Description of the tour:
We leave Rome heading in a northerly direction along the Tiber Valley until we reach Orvieto, an ancient town of Etruscan origins. Here we will stop to admire the beautiful 14th century cathedral considered a masterpiece of Romanesque-gothic architecture. We continue our journey through the olive groves and vineyards of the green Tuscan hills, where Orvieto, Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and the Nobile of Montelpulciano are just some of the wines produced in this the heart of one of Italy’s greatest D.O.C. wine areas. We will stop for a taste of local wines and produce that are typical of Umbria and Tuscany and lunch too will consist of traditional Italian dishes. In the early afternoon, having driven along the shores of Lake Trasimeno we will reach Assisi built on the slopes of Mount Subasio. Accompanied by our guide we will stroll through the streets to see the Church of Santa Chiara, the birthplace of St Francis and the house where he lived during his early childhood as well as the Town Hall Square with it’s People’s Palace, the Roman Temple dedicated to Minerva and the Town Hall itself. Close to the ancient walls of the town we will see the Basilica of St Francis whose interior is decorated with magnificent frescoes that date from the 12th to 14th centuries. On leaving Assisi, we will drive through the town of Santa Maria degli Angeli whose church, which bears the same name, is home to the Chapel of Porziuncola where St. Francis died in 1226. Arrive back in Rome around 19.30 – 20.00 and return to Departure Point or nearby.

Leaving Rome in a northern direction crossing the green valley of the Tevere river. Your motorcoach will drive you through some of the most beautiful Regions of Italy: Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany.
