CHRISTIAN ROME

Description of the tour:

The first stop will be on the Esquilino Hill where our guide will show you the treasures of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, then continuing by coach to stop at the Holy Staircase, the Lateran Palace and the Basilica of St. John in the Lateran (the first Cathedral of Rome-visit). Then proceeding along the Ancient Appian Way you will pass by the Chapel 'Domine Quo Vadis' before arriving at the Catacombs, the ancient underground cemeteries and first hiding places for the Christians. A visit will be made to either the Catacombs of St. Callisto or St. Sebastian or St. Domitilla, depending upon seasonal conditions. The tour will end with a spectacular view of the Baths of Emperor Caracalla. Return to Departure Point or nearby.

CLASSIC ROME

Description of the tour:

Crossing Piazza della Repubblica with Najad's Fountain, our local guide will take you on a pleasant stroll through the historical centre, where you can admire the Trevi Fountain, the Colonna of Marco Aurelio, Palazzo Montecitorio designed by Bernini, the Pantheon (visit inside), Palazzo Madama (seat of the senate) and Piazza Navona. Passing alongside Castel S. Angelo our coach will take you to the Basilica of St. Peter (visit inside except when there are religious celebrations) where you can admire one of Michelangelo’s magnificent works of art, “La Pietà”. Return to departure point or nearby.

IMPERIAL ROME

Description of the tour:

Arriving at Piazza Venezia with its impressive monument erected for King Victor Emanuele II and the tomb dedicated to the Unknown Soldier, you then continue by foot to the famous Piazza del Campidoglio designed by Michelangelo: from there you will enjoy a fantastic view of the Roman Forum. Our coach will then continue to view the Circus Maximus and the Pyramid of Caius Cestius before arriving at the Basilica of St. Paul outside the Walls (visit inside). The tour will be completed with a stop at the imposing Colosseum (STOP ONLY WITHOUT VISIT). Return to departure point or nearby. (*)

THE VATICAN MUSEUMS

Description of the tour:

The tour begins by passing through Piazza della Repubblica with the Najad's Fountain and following the ancient Aurelian Walls which once surrounded the ancient city. On route you will see the famous Borghese Gardens and the northern gate of the ancient city leading into Piazza del Popolo where you will see an Egyptian obelisk dating back to the time of Ramses II. Upon arrival at the Vatican Walls your guide will then lead you into the Vatican Museums taking the beautiful Spiral Staircase and continuing through the Tapestry Gallery and the Gallery of Geographical Map Gallery, before arriving in the famous Sistine Chapel with the magnificent fresco of 'Judgement Day' by Michelangelo. Return to departure point or nearby.

ROME BY NIGHT WITH DINNER
AT “FANTASIE DI TRASTEVERE”

Description of the tour:

Travelling down Via Cavour you will arrive at Imperial Forum and the Colosseum, then passing through Piazza Venezia with its impressive monument erected for King Victor Emmanuel II and the tomb dedicated to the Unknown Soldier, We will continue towards the river Tiber passing the Circus Maximus and the Temple of Vesta before arriving at the Tiberina Island and passing alongside the Jewish Quarter with its big bronze-roofed Synagogue. We then proceed towards the Basilica of St. Peter's, the Castle of Sant'Angelo and the ancient Ara Pacis to see these impressive monuments illuminated in all their glory. Arriving at Piazzale Flaminio you will see the famous Piazza del Popolo, the ancient northern entrance into Rome. Passing then through the beautiful park of Villa Borghese you will enter through the ancient Aurelian Walls to arrive on to the legendary Via Veneto, the elegant street of the “Dolce Vita”, and then complete the tour by visiting Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain where you will have the chance to throw a coin into the fountain ensuring your return to the Eternal City. After the city tour your guide will take you to the famous Theatre Restaurant “FANTASIE DI TRASTEVERE” where you will enjoy a typical folklore show and a traditional Roman dinner. FULL DAY TOUR TIVOLI

Description of the tour:

Following the ancient Via Tiburtina, 30 Kms east of Rome, this tour allows you to visit and compare two splendid villas from two different ages. At the foot of the Tiburtini hills which dominates the vast quarries of travertine marble and are host to the springs bronging the sulphurous waters to the spa town of Bagni di Tivoli, you will first stop to visit the Villa Adriana. The ruins can only hint at the grandeur and beauty of this Villa which the Emperor Hadrian had built to remind of the monuments and sites he had admired during his travels in the East. We then continue to Tivoli where we will have a lunch in a typical restaurant. After lunch we visit Villa D’Este, one of the most beautiful residences of the Renaissance. The Villa’s countless fountains, set in the heart of magnificent Italian style gardens, create a delightfully graceful symphony of carved stone, shade, sunlight and water. Return to Rome and drop off Departure Point or nearby.

FULL DAY TOUR NAPLES AND POMPEII

Description of the tour:

Leaving Rome in a southern direction you take the Autostrada del Sole (Highway of the Sun) which goes through the 'Ciociara' area from where you can view the town of Cassino with the Abbey of Montecassino, known for its famous battle and complete destruction during the second World War. Upon arrival in Naples we will proceed towards the hill of Posillipo from where we can enjoy one of the most spectacular views of the Gulf of Naples and of the volcano Vesuvio. Descending towards the port of Mergellina and following the coastal road, we will arrive in the ancient fishing quarter of Santa Lucia and see the impressive Castel dell'Ovo. The city tour continues crossing the historical centre to see Piazza del Plebiscito, the Royal Palace, the Church of San Francesco di Paola, the San Carlo Opera House, the Gallery of Umberto I and the imposing Maschio Angioino. Upon leaving the city, we cross the fertile valley of Mount Vesuvius, passing the villages of Ercolano, Torre del Greco and Torre Annunziata before finally arriving at Pompeii where we will first have a stop for lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch we will continue with a local guide on foot for your archaeological tour of the excavations of Pompeii. Visit this famous Roman city which was completely destroyed by a volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 a.D: through the ruins and rests of this ancient city, we can picture the everyday life of the Imperial Age and imagine the panic felt by the people in those last few minutes before the city was so disastrously buried. After the visit return to Rome (approximately 3 hours travelling time) with the possibility of stopping at a coral and cameo factory along the way. Upon arrival in Rome, return to Departure Point or nearby.

FULL DAY TOUR ASSISI/ORVIETO

Description of the tour:

We leave Rome heading in a northerly direction along the Tiber Valley until we reach Orvieto, an ancient town of Etruscan origins. Here we will stop to admire the beautiful 14th century cathedral considered a masterpiece of Romanesque-gothic architecture. We continue our journey through the olive groves and vineyards of the green Tuscan hills, where Orvieto, Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and the Nobile of Montelpulciano are just some of the wines produced in this the heart of one of Italy’s greatest D.O.C. wine areas. We will stop for a taste of local wines and produce that are typical of Umbria and Tuscany and lunch too will consist of traditional Italian dishes. In the early afternoon, having driven along the shores of Lake Trasimeno we will reach Assisi built on the slopes of Mount Subasio. Accompanied by our guide we will stroll through the streets to see the Church of Santa Chiara, the birthplace of St Francis and the house where he lived during his early childhood as well as the Town Hall Square with it’s People’s Palace, the Roman Temple dedicated to Minerva and the Town Hall itself. Close to the ancient walls of the town we will see the Basilica of St Francis whose interior is decorated with magnificent frescoes that date from the 12th to 14th centuries. On leaving Assisi, we will drive through the town of Santa Maria degli Angeli whose church, which bears the same name, is home to the Chapel of Porziuncola where St. Francis died in 1226. Arrive back in Rome around 19.30 – 20.00 and return to Departure Point or nearby.

FULL DAY TOUR CAPRI

Description of the tour:

Leaving Rome in a southern direction you take the Autostrada del Sole (Highway of the Sun) which goes through the 'Ciociara' area from where you can view the town of Cassino with the Abbey of Montecassino, known for its famous battle and complete destruction during the second World War. Upon arrival in Naples, embark the hydrofoil for the island of Capri (approx. 45 minutes). You will arrive at the port of Marina Grande and will then board motorboats to reach and visit the Blue Grotto (weather and sea conditions permitting). After this visit you will return to Marina Grande and depart by minibus for a panoramic tour of the Island ending in Anacapri, a characteristic village situated at the foot of Mt. Solaro. After enjoying lunch in a typical restaurant, you will have some free time to take unforgettable photos and purchase local products before returning to Marina Grande to board the boat back to Naples. Continuation of the journey for Rome (approximately 3 hours travelling time). Return to Departure Point or nearby.

FULL DAY TOUR FLORENCE

Description of the tour:

Leaving Rome in a northern direction crossing the green valley of the Tevere river. Your motorcoach will drive you through some of the most beautiful Regions of Italy: Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. Arrive in Florence at approximately 11:30 am and enjoy a tour of the city which will start with a visit to the Academy Museum where you will see the magnificent David by Michelangelo and then continuing on foot with your local guide to see the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with the beautiful dome of Brunelleschi. Other treasures, the Baptistry and the Giotto’s Bell Tower will also be admired before arriving at Piazza della Signoria, the heart of Florence. Your included lunch will be served in a typical Florentine restaurant. After lunch you will then continue to Piazza Santa Croce where the church of the same name is situated and great artists like Michelangelo are buried. Then you will have the opportunity to visit one of the leather schools in order to admire one of the typical crafts of the city: here you will have some free time to discover some of the other ancient crafts such as mosaics and goldsmiths. 2 Days / 1 Night

DAY 01: Departure from Rome through the city and onto the Autostrada del Sole (Highway of the Sun-a major Italian highway). Arrival in Naples and enjoy a short panoramic tour of the city. Lunch in a local restaurant (drinks are not included). Continuation of the journey to Pompeii, a famous ancient Roman city destroyed by a volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 a.D where you will visit the archaeological excavations. Afterwards, continue along the coast towards Sorrento. Dinner and overnight in a first class hotel in Sorrento.

DAY 02: After breakfast in your hotel, transfer to the port and embarkation for the Island of Capri. Arrival at the Port of Marina Grande and weather and sea conditions permitting, board a small boat for a visit to the Blue Grotto. Then you will have a panoramic tour of Capri and Anacapri by minibus and on foot. After your included lunch in a typical restaurant (beverages NOT included), your afternoon is free to stroll through this enchanting island. Meet at the Marina Grande at the hour agreed upon with your guide and return to Naples by ferryboat (approximately 1 hour).
