IIT-CNR (http://www.iit.cnr.it and http://www.nic.it )

The Institute of Informatics and Telematics - IIT of the Italian National Council of Research - CNR is the result of the merge between the Institute for Telematic Applications (IAT) and the Institute for Computational Mathematics (IMC), after the re-organization of the CNR scientific network.

The Institute is particularly devoted to Information Society and deals with research, transfer of knowledge and training in the field of information and communication technologies and computational sciences.

IIT-CNR is in charge of the ccTLD "it" Registry. This role has been recognised to the CNR by IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) since December 1987 due to technical and scientific skills acquired in the field of telematic networks. At present, the Registry counts over 800,000 domain names registered under ccTLD "it" and over 2300 contracts signed with worldwide Internet Service Providers.
